Accessibility at Fresno State

Employee Workplace Accommodations

Fresno State is committed to providing reasonable workplace accommodations to qualified employees and applicants with disabilities or medical conditions so they can perform the essential functions of their positions. Workplace accommodation requests for employees are coordinated through Human Resources.

For official procedures, forms, and support, visit the ADA Accommodation Services page maintained by Human Resources.

Who May Request an Accommodation?

Employees and applicants with disabilities or medical conditions may request a reasonable accommodation. Human Resources coordinates an interactive process to review requests and identify appropriate accommodations based on individual job duties and functional limitations.

How to Request an Accommodation

  1. Discuss your accommodation needs with your supervisor or designated administrator. The discussion should focus on the accommodation need, not on a diagnosis.
  2. Review the official ADA Job Accommodation Request Process.
  3. Complete the Request for Reasonable Accommodation Form.
  4. Provide supporting information from your medical provider when requested by Human Resources.
  5. Submit completed materials to Human Resources using one of the secure methods listed on the official HR process page. Do not send confidential medical documentation by email.

Examples of Workplace Accommodations

  • Modified equipment or assistive devices
  • Adjustments to workspaces or facilities
  • Leave of absence or reassignment, when appropriate
  • Modified communication methods or other job-related adjustments

Assistive Device Program

Faculty and staff with permanent disabilities may also be eligible for support through the CSU Assistive Device Program. This program helps provide adaptive computer components, software, and certain related equipment needed for essential job functions. Standard office equipment and low-cost purchases are generally not covered.

Appeals and Additional Information

If an employee disagrees with an accommodation decision or believes an accommodation was not provided in a timely manner, appeal and complaint options are available. Employees should review the Disability Accommodation Appeals page. Additional definitions and common questions are available on the ADA FAQ page.

Confidentiality

Medical information shared during the accommodation process is treated as confidential and maintained separately by Human Resources. Employees should use the secure submission methods identified by HR when submitting accommodation documentation.
